Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. What better day to show the one’s you love just how much you care.

You do not have to be in a romantic relationship to express love on Valentine’s Day. Kids, parents, friends (especially your single friends) all appreciate feeling appreciated. So why not shower them with love and kindness on the days leading up to February 14th?

February is About More than Love

If you really aren’t into that sappy love stuff, there are plenty of other opportunities to show appreciation in February. My husband is not into sappy, so I no longer expect flowers, or even acknowledgement of the holiday on Valentine’s Day.  He shows his love everyday through small gestures.

Houston-Area Events to Kick-Start Sales in 2016

There are three types of marketing you must practice if you want to kick-start sales in 2016:  traditional marketing, attraction marketing, and relationship marketing.  Using all three marketing approaches will keep your sales funnel full.

In very simple terms, traditional marketing is your business card, flyers, brochures and logo.  Attraction marketing is your personal brand, the things you do that make you interesting enough to others that they want to work with you.  Relationship marketing is showing appreciation for, and interest in, your potential and existing clients.

If you live in the Greater Houston area, you have several opportunities over the next few weeks to learn from masters of traditional, attraction and relationship marketing:

Tutorial: How to Change Your SendOutCards Subscription

SendOutCards offers two types of subscriptions for our card and gift senders, retail and preferred.

A retail subscription is $9.80 per month for 20 points.  20 points roughly equates to 6 greeting cards per month.

A preferred subscription is $39 per month for 100 points.  100 points is 33 greeting cards per month.  Points can also be used for gifts, so the preferred subscription is great for folks who like to send cards and gifts.  Most folks choose the preferred subscription.

Login to your SendOutCards account.

Hover over “Main Menu” and click “Revolution Office”.

Click on “View/Edit Subscription Profile”.

In the box labeled “Product Information”, click “edit”.

Suzy Snow | 30 Women Who Mean Business Series

Suzy Snow is Jamberry Independent Consultant in the Greater Houston area.

Describe your business (work, passion) in 3 to 5 sentences.
I am a busy mom with two sets of twins who never had time nor the money to get my nails done. When my girls and I tried Jamberry wraps, we fell in love with how long they last, the adorable designs & salon quality nails for a fraction of the cost. Now, I am blessed to get paid by having pretty nails! Yay!

How did you get started in your business?
I originally joined only for the discount because my husband lost his engineering job at the time and I couldn’t afford to pay full price. I wanted the whole kit with the heater and wraps and figured purchasing the consultant kit was a good deal, even if I never sold it but could buy it at a discount. I had a launch party and made my first 3 fast starts and it took off.

What was the biggest hurdle you had to overcome in your business?
Finding the time to consistently devote each day to my business.

How has this hurdle made you better?
I learned about the power hour and started implementing it. This has helped.

Top books for personal and business growth?

What does gratitude mean to you?
Gratitude means to be thankful, joyful and content in all circumstances.

Who do you appreciate? Why?
I appreciate my husband for encouraging me to do well with Jamberry. I appreciate my sweet girls a.k.a. my business partners. They love Jamberry as much if not more than I do. I appreciate everyone in my “Jamily” and the support they provide.

David Bowie, A Marketing Genius

Last night, my 17-year-old daughter, D, came out of hiding from her room to tell me David Bowie died from liver cancer.

That emptiness you feel after a profound loss.  I’m feeling it.

David Bowie performed a majority of the musical score of my teen years. Much like my daughter, I hid in my room as a teen, listening to “Modern Love”, “Heroes“, and “Let’s Dance” on repeat in the CD player.

D is also a David Bowie fan. Not because of his music, but because of his role in the movie Labyrinth.

David Bowie Remains Relevant

Bowie’s 1974 appearance on the Dick Cavett Show is available on Hulu. You should go watch it.

Bowie gives a riveting, toe-tapping performance of “Young Americans” (well, alright.) In the interview, Cavett remarks that Bowie is constantly changing and adapting. Bowie’s response?

“Well it’s what you want, really, isn’t it? And what do you think on that?”

David Bowie was a marketing genius.

“I glit from one thing to another. . . It’s like flit, but the 70s version.” – David Bowie to Dick Cavett, 1974

“Glitting,” in a calculated way, is exactly what you need to do to compete in online marketing.  Adapting to change keeps you relevant.

David Bowie was relevant for half a century.  Not many artists, or businesses, can say the same.

Enjoy this iconic Bowie performance of “Rebel, Rebel” from Live Aid in 1985.

The soundtrack of my life will never be the same.

Caturday Saturday 2.0 | #fluffykitty #geriatricdog #blogboost

I’m resurrecting Caturday Saturday.

Last January (2015), I thought it would be cute to post images of Shade, our new #fluffykitty as he acclimated to his new surroundings and housemates, Cashmere and Muffy. Alas, Caturday Saturday only lasted three weeks in 2015. We shall see how long it lasts this time.

Shade is a never-ending source of entertainment.  He deserves his own blog.  He also thinks he is a dog.

Cashmere passed over the “rainbow bridge” earlier this year.  She was 18 years old. She came into my life as a kitten, part of the package deal when I married Shane.  It’s been a little rough adjusting to not having her around.

Muffy, a.k.a. #GeriatricDog, loves Shade.  They play together, sleep together, and eat together.  Muffy will often take food out of her bowl and leave it on the floor for Shade.  It’s highly entertaining to watch their daily antics.

I often post candid images of Muffy and Shade on Instagram.  You should follow me.  I post relationship marketing tips, and doses of inspiration, too.

Enjoy today’s Caturday Saturday collage:

"Hey Mom! Shade stuck his tail in my eye and now he's bored!"

Fun January Recognition Holidays | 15 Great Reasons to Send a Card and Gift

Today is Friday, which means I am spending my morning at Conroe Coffee helping clients create beautiful real paper greeting cards with their laptops or smart phones.  I look forward to Friday mornings because, let’s face it, greeting card senders are good people.

I love sending, and receiving cards.  This week I received New Years and Birthday cards from Angie, Joy, Babs, Steve and Becky.  Fun!

Back in 2014, I started curating lists of recognition holidays, reasons to send a cards gift, by month.  I wasn’t very consistent at it.  Lucky for me, SendOutCards, is now doing the curation!  Hopefully, since the hard part is being done for me, I’ll get better at remembering to share the list each month.
