I am Kandas Nesbitt-Rodarte, gratitude geek, award-winning speaker, business owner, mom, Girl Scout adviser and pioneer in online custom furniture sales. I love to drink coffee, crochet and discover new places, spaces and things. Since 1998, I have been the CEO of Wood Designs, Inc. an online custom furniture retailer doing business under the trade name Shaka Studios American Furniture.
I embarked on a grand adventure in 1998. I married my knight in shining armor, purchased a home, restructured our custom furniture business and had a baby. It was a rather productive year! When we launched our custom furniture website in 1999, one of the first companies of our kind to do so, we created a new way to purchase artisan-crafted custom-made furniture.
Momgeek.com was founded in 1999 as a web hosting and design business, in support of the custom furniture business. In 2007, I sold the web business but kept the domain name, because I highly identify with the term MomGeek. I am a mom, and I am most certainly a geek. Albeit I prefer the definition “a person with an eccentric devotion to a particular interest” over an other connotation.
I have always identified myself as a geek. Sci-fi and fantasy are my favorite books, shows and movies. I’ve seen both The Princess Bride and J.J. Abrams Star Trek more times than I can count. I am also eccentrically devoted to motherhood, Girl Scouts, Toastmasters and supporting and uplifting other women business owners. This blog will touch on each of these passions. However, the main focus will be gratitude, specifically why I am a gratitude geek.
