Yes, you can teach an old dog new tricks.

I’ve been using Corel Paint Shop Pro (affiliate link) for years. Fifteen years. I was an ardent believer that it was the only graphic program I needed.

My husband and daughter, both artists, prefer Adobe Photoshop (affiliate link) and a few months ago I finally broke down and tried it.  After getting over the initial frustration of learning a new program I decided I liked it better than PSP.

Honestly, though, it isn’t really what I needed.

What I really needed was a program I could use to quickly and easily make better blog graphics than I was creating with PSP and PS.

I stumbled upon Canva, an online graphic design solution.  It is fabulous!  There was a learning curve and I had to do a lot of trial and error before I got the gist of it. Now that I know what I am doing, I can create a better blog graphic in a few minutes. I upload my photos, add text and my logo and then download the image.

I think the results speak for themselves.

I made this with PSP:

Blog Graphic created with Paint Shop Pro

And this with Canva:

Better Blog Graphic made with Canva.

It may take a little time to get used to it, but if you want to make better blog graphics, give Canva a try.

  1. Great post. While there are times where you might need a professional artist, Canva is great for blogging and social media. I love using Canva to make really cool looking cover banners for my facebook pages. Super easy and looks pretty good. Thanks for sharing this! 🙂

Oh, I often do something similar on paint, but there are tons of other things I can’t do on paint, so I am still looking into some graphics programs.

I’ve been trying to get my head wrapped around canva. I have an account but I’m just not getting over that learning curve.
I think given that I’ve seen the differences from your post. I will spend some time this week trying it out.

    Thanks
