Jan Goulden is an Independent Rodan + Fields Consultant. She was a vendor at the Conroe Women Who Mean Business Expo. I like her enthusiasm and am looking forward to getting to know her better.
Share a little about your business.
My business is to develop relationships with people so that I may share my Rodan + Fields business opportunity and/or skincare products with others. My mission is to help as many people have financial flexibility and premium skincare as I can reach. My goal is to provide training and support to my business partners and excellent customer service to my clients.
How did you get started in your business?
My husband and I have three sons and we spend tons of time outside. As a result, I had a lot of sun damage from using inadequate sunscreen. (Don’t worry, I always took the time to put plenty on the boys). I was looking for skincare products that would help me repair and prevent further damage. I attended an information session at a friend’s house to learn about the Rodan + Fields products. I was so impressed by the company and its products that I immediately signed up to become a consultant. I haven’t looked back and that was over a year ago.
What was the biggest hurdle you had to overcome in your business?
I have always had complete confidence in my business and the products but I doubted myself. My biggest hurdle has been to reach outside of myself to strangers and even to acquaintances about my business. My self-doubt often paralyzed me with fear of sharing my information. I was afraid to bother people or to look too forward or aggressive.
How has this hurdle made you better?
This hurdle of self-doubt has been difficult to overcome but, in my journey to overcome it, I have met many new people. These people have enriched my life; I have learned from them. I am even developing true friendships with some of them.

What does gratitude mean to you?
Gratitude is a feeling that you have when someone, or a group of people, help you. Gratitude makes you feel loved and valued and having self-worth.
Many times, people don’t even realize the impact they have had on a person or how grateful that person feels towards them. Gratitude can be hard to express or shown but is often felt very deeply. Words, card or gift may not seem adequate to show how much gratitude you may feel towards another.
Who do you appreciate?
I appreciate my parents because they have always encouraged me to dream big and then work towards those dreams. I also appreciate people who push and challenge me because this is how I learn and grow. I hope that, in return, I push and challenge those people to grow and learn, too.
I also appreciate Kandas for including me in this series. She is someone who is pushing and challenging me to learn and grow!
Aw shucks! You made me blush! Anything else you’d like to add?
I am always looking for new people with whom I can exchange business information. I like to learn about other businesses so that I may make referrals when I am asked. I also appreciate it when other business owners refer me to their clients.
