3 Icons in Real Estate Share Their Top Relationship Marketing Tips

Creating a competitive edge is the key to standing out in a crowded market.  Real estate, especially in the Greater Houston, Texas area where I live, is an extremely crowded market.  There are 70,000 agents for 7 million residents.  Relationship marketing is your competitive edge.

Using relationship marketing principles, Jim McCord took his average transaction from $200,000 to $1 million.

Jay McHugh used an agent appreciation system to grow his brokerage to $1 billion a year in sales.

Over a four-year period, Gayle Zientek tripled her business 99% by referral.  She has already received 99 referrals this year.

Sounds like three people you might want to learn from, eh?  Watch this Facebook Live replay:

You can use the same powerful relationship marketing tool these real icons in real estate use in your own business for as little as $5 per customer per year.  I can show you how.

18 Gifts for Someone Going Through Chemo and Radiation

Someone you love has cancer.  You may have no idea what to say or do.

They are facing chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, biologic or immune therapy. Or, all the above.

You want to help.  Here are some awesome, inexpensive ways you can.

Gifts that Help the Family

Treatment is just as stressful on the people who live with the patient as it is on the patient.

1. Prepare a meal.  Frozen casseroles are great because the family can heat and eat as needed.

2.  Arrange for a housekeeper through a charitable organization such as Cleaning for a Reason.

Gifts that Help Ease Nausea and Dry Mouth

Nausea is probably the most common side effect of chemotherapy.  Dry mouth and mouth sores, often painful, are also common side effects of many chemo drugs.  These gifts help nausea, and dry mouth:

3.  Peppermint – peppermint essential oil, peppermint tea, peppermint candy.

4.  Ginger – ginger syrup, ginger chews, crystallized ginger, ginger tea, ginger essential oil.  I find ginger honey crystals dissolved in warm water quite soothing.

5.  Throat Drops

6.  Biotene Mouth Spray

Biotene Moisturizing Mouth Spray eases dry mouth that may occur during chemotherapy treatment.

Gifts that Ease Pain and Discomfort

Another common side effect of chemo is Peripheral Neuropathy, nerve damage that causes pain, tingling, numbness, especially in the feet and hands.  Dry skin, lips, and eyes are also common.  Chemo patients are often cold.

7.  Foot Massage – a wooden massage roller is nice, too.

8.  Epsom Salt

9.  Pain Relief rubs or patches

10.  Essential Oil Blends for pain or relaxation

11.  Lip Balm

12.  Hand Lotion

13.  Eye Drops

14.  Warm fuzzy slipper socks.  They are like a hug for your feet.

Gifts for Taboo Side Effects

There are also some side effect from chemotherapy that the patient is not comfortable sharing.  For example: constipation, diarrhea, and hair loss.

15.  Hats and head scarves to keep the head warm.

16.  Dried fruit like prunes and dates to ease constipation.

17.  Moist Flushable Cleansing Wipes – dry toilette paper can be irritating.

18.  Travel Tissue Packs – because nose hairs fall out, too.

Pocket packs of tissue are a great gift to someone going through chemotherapy suffering from hair loss. Nose hairs fall out, too!

Final Word

Even the smallest gesture is appreciated by someone going through cancer treatment. It is an exhausting and emotional experience.

A huge note of thanks to my friend Stephanne Davenport. She dropped of two delicious meals, plus a bag full of useful goodies, after my most recent chemo treatment.  #FluffyKitty approved.

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. What better day to show the one’s you love just how much you care.

You do not have to be in a romantic relationship to express love on Valentine’s Day. Kids, parents, friends (especially your single friends) all appreciate feeling appreciated. So why not shower them with love and kindness on the days leading up to February 14th?

February is About More than Love

If you really aren’t into that sappy love stuff, there are plenty of other opportunities to show appreciation in February. My husband is not into sappy, so I no longer expect flowers, or even acknowledgement of the holiday on Valentine’s Day.  He shows his love everyday through small gestures.

Fun January Recognition Holidays | 15 Great Reasons to Send a Card and Gift

Today is Friday, which means I am spending my morning at Conroe Coffee helping clients create beautiful real paper greeting cards with their laptops or smart phones.  I look forward to Friday mornings because, let’s face it, greeting card senders are good people.

I love sending, and receiving cards.  This week I received New Years and Birthday cards from Angie, Joy, Babs, Steve and Becky.  Fun!

Back in 2014, I started curating lists of recognition holidays, reasons to send a cards gift, by month.  I wasn’t very consistent at it.  Lucky for me, SendOutCards, is now doing the curation!  Hopefully, since the hard part is being done for me, I’ll get better at remembering to share the list each month.

Matthew McConaughey Got It Right | How to Get More Testimonials and Happy Clients

If you are a long time follower of this blog, you know that my husband and I own a custom furniture business called ShaKa Studios.

We launched our website in 1998 and sell high-end niche furniture.

We do NOT have a SHOWROOM. NOR can our clients EVEN SEE the furniture before they buy!

You are probably asking yourself how that is possible.

The answer is simple. I ask for testimonials.

A Simple Way to Get More Testimonials

I use SendOutCards to send every client a thank you card and in it I simply write, “we’d love to see a photo of your new furniture in your home.”  I attach sea salt caramels and click send.  About 40% of our clients will email or text photos to us after they receive their card and caramels.

At this point you are probably wondering what Matthew McConaughey has to do with customer testimonials?  I’ll get to that in a minute.

This past summer,  I received a series of photos of a white cannonball bed in a home on Long Island, Bahamas with a note that simply said:

“And thank you for the awesome caramels…they’re gone now!!!!”

Here is one of the bed photos:

The caramels cost about $10 with shipping and now I have gorgeous photos of one of our handmade beds in a beach house on Long Island Bahamas. I can use these photos on our website, blog, and print advertisement. I’d say my return on investment is AWESOME!

The Magic is in the Cookies

I send a thank you card and gift using SendOutCards to each of our Shaka Studios clients. I do it because we truly appreciate our clients and want them to know so.

Received a note the other morning from a world-renowned interior design firm in Boston.  They ordered two custom red cannonball beds, so I sent them 2 dozen cookies:

Hi Shane and Kandas,

Thank you so much for the cookies and the sweet thank you card. It was a very nice surprise this morning. Hope you had a wonderful 4th and your summer is magical.
Thanks again,
Sarah and the W&S team

Not only did Jamie Deaton leave a rave review about her custom bed, she also tweeted about her card and gift:

Gratitude Reciprocates

I promised I’d get to it…  In his Oscar acceptance speech, Matthew McConaughey said it best:

Appreciate your customers and they will appreciate you back with more testimonials, repeat business and referrals.

3 Relationship Marketing Rules

We received a great Christmas gift via Twitter from a client over at ShaKa Studios. Through all the hustle and bustle, the small things we do consistently over time, to create great relationships with our clients, continue to yield positive results.

Today, I am sharing my 3 Relationship Marketing rules.

Relationship Marketing Means More Loyal Clients

Relationship marketing is about creating relationships with your clients.  When you have a relationship, your client is more likely to do business with you again, and even refer business your way. If you are really lucky, they might just talk about you on social media.

So, how do you create these relationships?

I built my entire 27 year sales career around relationships.  It started at my very first job, as an assistant store manager in a clothing boutique, and continues today.  You just need to remember three rules to create great relationships with your clients:

  1. Be genuine. It helps if you are genuinely nice.
  2. Be transparent. Share a bit of your personal life. Just a bit.
  3. Say “Thank You” often and with enthusiasm.

I send a thank you card and small gift, usually yummy Sea Salt Caramel from SendOutCards, to each of our custom furniture clients over at ShaKa Studios.  Here is a tweet from one client on Christmas eve:

I’d say that was a pretty groovy Christmas gift our client gave us, eh?

Your turn. How do YOU build relationships with your clients?
