I had the privilege of hearing the Dalai Lama speak in Berkeley, California when I was in my early 20s.
His words were simple and true.
He cracked jokes. The jokes also rang true.
For example, he suggested that the population of the Earth was growing too rapidly. To prevent overpopulation, we needed more monks and more nuns.
When I watch a documentary of the Dalai Lama I am always struck by the big smile on his face and the way his whole body jiggles when he chuckles.
He teaches anyone who will be taught his very simple religion. It is beautiful. It is a religion of kindness.
Thank you, your holiness, for leading by example and showing the world that kindness is the universal religion.
